Signed and Scrubbed: September 2026 hospital M&A

Welcome back to Signed and Scrubbed, a monthly roundup of hospital deals, developments, and bankruptcies.

This month, a hospital system in Brooklyn got closer to becoming part of NYC Health + Hospitals. Here’s your September 2026 rundown.

Adena Health. On Sept. 1, Chillicothe, Ohio-based Adena Health finalized an acquisition of Lancaster, Ohio-based Fairfield Medical Center (222 beds), making it the system’s fifth hospital.

NYC Health + Hospitals. In a unanimous vote on Sept. 17, the New York State Public Health and Health Planning Council approved a merger between Brooklyn-based Maimonides Health, which has three hospitals, and NYC Health + Hospitals, an 11-hospital system headquartered in Manhattan.

Parkview Health. Lebanon, Indiana-based Witham Health Services (60 beds) signed an affiliation agreement on Sept. 16 with Fort Wayne, Indiana-based Parkview Health.

Sanford Health. Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based Sanford Health and Robbinsdale, Minnesota-based North Memorial Health finalized an agreement on Sept. 1 to create a 60-hospital nonprofit health system.

Wellstar Health System. On Sept. 2, Toccoa, Georgia-based, 96-bed Stephens County Hospital reached an agreement to join Wellstar Health System, which is based in Marietta, Georgia, and currently owns 13 hospitals.
