Welcome to July’s On Rotation, a monthly roundup of some of the leadership changes at healthcare companies, ranging from market leaders to newer startups.

Ami Bhatt. Wearables company Whoop announced the former FDA committee chair and American College of Cardiology leader as its chief medical officer on July 21.
Gaurav Gupta. After over 20 years with biopharma Merck, Dave Williams will retire as EVP and chief information and digital officer. Gupta will replace him. Gupta joined the company July 20 and will officially take on the role Sept. 1.
David Miller. On July 15, Vanderbilt University named Miller as the next dean of its school of medicine and the president and CEO of Vanderbilt Health, effective Jan. 1, 2027. Miller is currently CEO of Michigan Medicine and EVP for medical affairs for the University of Michigan. He’ll succeed Jeff Balser, whose retirement was announced in March.
Sumit Rana. The president of electronic health record leader Epic Systems told employees in a July 3 email that he’s leaving on Aug. 14, Epic spokesperson Coral Graszer told Healthcare Brew. He has been at the company for over 27 years, according to his LinkedIn.
Joseph Romanelli. Tessera Therapeutics has a new president and CEO. The biotech announced Romanelli’s appointment on July 23. He’ll also join the company’s board of directors and become CEO-partner at Flagship Pioneering, Tessera’s founder. Romanelli comes to the job after 30 years at Merck, where he was most recently president of the human health international division, according to his LinkedIn. He replaces Michael Severino.

Sarah Romano. Same title, different company! On July 14, SS Innovations, a medtech focused on surgical robotic technologies, announced Romano as CFO effective Aug. 3. She most recently held the same title at another surgical robotic-focused medtech, Vicarious Surgical. SS Innovations’s last CFO, Milan Rao, left in May, per a company SEC filing, less than six months after his appointment was announced.
João Seabra. Siemens Healthineers, a medtech company, announced a promotion for Seabra on July 30. He’ll move from head of enterprise services to president and head of the Americas in October. Seabra succeeds John Kowal, who held the position for about a year and a half, according to his LinkedIn.
Michael Severino. Tessera’s former CEO is now CEO of biopharma Sarepta Therapeutics, effective July 28. He is succeeding Doug Ingram, whose retirement was announced in February and who will stay on as an advisor until the year’s end.
Daren Thayne. Physician-led value-based care company Aledade announced Thayne as its new chief technology officer on July 14. He will succeed Lalith Vadlamannati and continue the company’s AI adoption efforts. He’s coming to the company after 15 years at AI and data products platform Domo.
