Welcome back to Signed and Scrubbed, a monthly roundup of hospital deals, developments, and bankruptcies.

This month, Healthcare Brew reported on how an upstate New York rural hospital is attempting to reopen as a behavioral health facility. While it’s not set to start care until spring, we have more provider-related announcements to keep you updated on.

Here’s your February 2026 roundup.

Enhabit. The home and hospice provider announced on Feb. 23 it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by private equity firm Kinderhook Industries for approximately $1.1 billion. Enhabit has 249 home health locations and 117 hospice locations in 34 states, according to a release.

Prime Healthcare Foundation. The nonprofit attached to for-profit Ontario, California-based health system Prime Healthcare acquired 250-bed nonprofit Central Maine Healthcare, based in Lewiston, on Feb. 16. The foundation now has 21 nonprofit hospitals in eight states.

UConn Health. Farmington-based UConn Health, which includes 274-bed UConn John Dempsey Hospital, completed its acquisition of 225-bed Waterbury Hospital on March 1, according to CT Insider. It acquired the Connecticut-based hospital from Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings, which filed for bankruptcy in January 2025.

WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital. The Wheeling, West Virginia-based health system announced on Feb. 24 it has signed a letter of intent to acquire 30-bed inpatient pediatric psychiatric Orchard Park Hospital, also based in Wheeling.
