Welcome back to Signed and Scrubbed, a monthly roundup of hospital deals, developments, and bankruptcies.

Franklin, Tennessee-based Community Health Systems (CHS) kicked off 2026 selling off even more of its assets, with Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health in talks to follow in its footsteps.

Here’s more for your January 2026 roundup.

CommonSpirit Health. The 137-hospital health system is reportedly considering selling seven hospitals in two separate sales, Becker’s reported on Jan. 23. Under the proposed deals, CommonSpirit would sell CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, CHI St. Alexius Health Turtle Lake, CHI St. Alexius Health Garrison, and CHI St. Alexius Health Devils Lake to North Dakota’s Altru Health, which includes 177-bed Altru Hospital.

In another deal, the nonprofit health system is looking to sell off the Steubenville, Ohio-based Trinity Health System to the 40+-hospital nonprofit University of Pittsburgh Medical Center system. The deal would include its three hospitals: Trinity Center West, Trinity Hospital Twin, and St. Clairsville Neighborhood Hospital.

Community Health Systems (CHS). For-profit CHS signed a definitive agreement on Jan. 20 to sell the 180-bed Crestwood Medical Center to nonprofit Huntsville Hospital Health System—both in Huntsville, Alabama—for $450 million.

Marlborough Hospital. The formerly independent, Massachusetts-based nonprofit Marlborough Hospital with 79 beds became a part of nonprofit UMass Memorial Health, a Worcester, Massachusetts-based system, on Jan. 1.

Mass General Brigham/Tampa General Hospital. On Jan. 12, Boston-based nonprofit Mass General Brigham and nonprofit Tampa General Hospital launched a joint venture to create an ambulatory care network on the east coast of Florida. Part of this partnership includes building a new radiation oncology center that’s set to open later this year.

​​Parkview Health. Fort Wayne, Indiana-based nonprofit Parkview Health signed a letter of intent to acquire the 105-bed nonprofit Goshen Health in Indiana on Jan. 27. If completed, Goshen would become Parkview’s 16th hospital.

RWJBarnabas Health. On Jan. 5, 14-hospital nonprofit RWJBarnabas Health in West Orange, New Jersey, signed a definitive agreement to make the nonprofit Englewood Health, which includes 283-bed Englewood Hospital and Medical Center and is located in northern New Jersey, part of its system.

Salem Health Hospitals and Clinics. Nonprofit Oregon systems Salem Health Hospitals and Clinics (which includes 644-bed Salem Hospital) and Santiam Hospital and Clinics (which includes Santiam Hospital with 40 beds) signed a definitive agreement to partner on Jan. 19.
