Welcome back to AI 411, a monthly roundup of tech announcements from across the healthcare industry.
A few major technology companies made announcements this month, including Microsoft and Philips. But we’re only just getting started. Here’s your breakdown on June AI news.
Athenahealth. On June 3, electronic medical records company Athenahealth unveiled more than 80 new AI features on athenaOne, its AI platform that can do tasks like medical transcription. Among the new features are copay, insurance denial appeal, and prior authorization tools.
Mayo Clinic and Microsoft. The Rochester, Minnesota-based system and tech giant announced on June 2 a new collaboration to “develop and deploy a frontier AI model” for healthcare, according to a press release. The model is intended to help clinicians identify diagnoses and provide more personalized treatment options. The tool will be owned by Mayo Clinic.
Mount Sinai. Mount Sinai had two big announcements last month. On June 2, the New York-based health system shared a new partnership with Clarium, which has a supply chain automation platform. The technology uses cameras in the operating room to document procedures and will be deployed across eight hospitals. On June 22, Mount Sinai also announced a partnership with AI management company Signal 1, which will oversee and help direct how AI technologies are deployed across the system.
Philips and WellSpan Health. On June 4, tech company Philips and WellSpan Health, which serves Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland, announced a seven-year partnership researching how AI technologies work across the health system and will establish Philips as its “preferred vendor.”
Zelis. Health finance company Zelis launched a new platform, Zelis NSA Claim Advantage, on June 24. The platform uses AI to help health plans navigate the No Surprises Act, a federal law designed to prevent patients from unexpected healthcare bills.
