Welcome back to AI 411, a monthly roundup of tech announcements from across the healthcare industry.
Big tech dominated this month, as OpenAI and Nvidia both had healthcare-related news. Here’s your rundown on AI this July.
Ardent Health. The for-profit Brentwood, Tennessee-based health system, which consists of 30 hospitals, said it has officially surpassed 1 million patient encounters using Ambience, an AI scribe that helps clinicians create medical notes. The health system started using Ambience in September 2025, and gave this update on July 23.
Nvidia. On July 22, the tech giant released a new open-source simulator called the Nvidia Medical Physics Simulation framework. It’s a digital space where surgical robots can be designed and tested to see how the robots move, touch, or interact with other items before reaching physical spaces.
OpenAI. On July 23, OpenAI made Health in ChatGPT available to logged-in US users who are 18 years old or older. Updates allow users to upload medical documents and Apple Health information. The company said 300+ million people use ChatGPT for “health-related questions” each week.
WellSpan Health. On July 22, WellSpan, a health system that serves Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland, announced it has completed its technology transition to Amazon Web Services. The process included moving more than 300 clinical applications and 7500 terabytes of data, including the system’s electronic medical records on Epic, according to the company. The transition, which took 17 weeks, is meant to position the company “to deploy AI at a scale and speed unmatched among community health systems.”
