Welcome back to AI 411, a monthly roundup of AI announcements from across the healthcare industry.
This month, we reported on how nurses are using their bargaining power to enforce hospitals to create rules for AI implementation. ICYMI, we also covered the state of AI regulations in the US—and much more in our recent health tech report—in late March.
Without further adieu, here’s your breakdown of April’s AI news. (Spoiler: Amazon and OpenAI both made the list.)
Amazon. The tech giant announced on April 14 its new agentic tool, Amazon Bio Discovery, which uses AI to help researchers design and test new drugs and expedite the process to bring drugs to patients.
Ambience. On April 1 (no joke!), Ambience, best known for its AI clinical documentation scribe, launched a Chart Chat for Nursing component within the health system Cleveland Clinic’s electronic health record (EHR). The tool provides nurses with physician progress notes, hospital policy, labs, and more.
Covista. The healthcare educator announced on April 14 a partnership with Google Cloud to create the “AI-powered classroom of the future,” i.e., a tool that learns about the student and their needs, like providing visuals and podcasts to learners who prefer those formats.
Helical. The startup, which is working to use AI for drug research and development, announced a $10 million seed round led by venture capitalist Redalpine on April 14.
OpenAI. On April 22, the AI company released ChatGPT for Clinicians, designed to support clinical documentation and medical research. Previously, it only had offerings geared toward patients, like its ChatGPT Health that it announced in early January.
Spry. A new agentic AI tool has hit the market after EHR and revenue cycle management startup Spry announced a new documentation platform specific for rehab therapy on April 8.
