We pulled together a list of provider transactions from November, including announcements from Tampa General in Florida and West Virginia University Health System.
Here’s your November news rundown.
Heights University Hospital. Jersey City, New Jersey-based 163-bed Heights University Hospital abruptly closed after 150 years, CBS News reported on Nov. 14, due to lack of state and federal funding. The emergency room is still open and operational under new owners Hudson Regional Health.
OhioHealth. The Columbus, Ohio-based health system is proceeding with its plans to acquire the 222-bed nonprofit Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio, making it the system’s 17th acute care facility, Becker’s reported.
Tampa General. The 49-bed Arcadia, Florida-based DeSoto Memorial Hospital signed a lease agreement with Tampa General Hospital to operate the struggling hospital, Fox 4 reported on Nov. 12.
WVU Health System. Morgantown-based West Virginia University (WVU) Health System announced on Nov. 19 it’s acquiring the five-hospital Butler, Pennsylvania-based Independence Health System in fall 2026. WVU Health System currently operates 25 hospitals. The new hospitals include Butler Memorial (294 beds), Clarion (67 beds), Excela Health Frick (33 beds), Latrobe (144 beds), and Westmoreland (349 beds).
